Privacy Policy

Everything you enter is stored on your device. Only when you create a household or accept an invitation is the data shared with your roommates via iCloud. There are no accounts with us, no ads and no analysis of your behavior.

1. Who is responsible

The controller responsible for processing your data in this app within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Peter Horn
Kieler Str. 120
24119 Kronshagen
Germany
info.definitionen@gmail.com

2. What data the app processes

The app only processes what you enter yourself:

People: name (a nickname is enough), color and – if you choose one – a profile picture.

Rooms and tasks: names, points, intervals and icons.

Log: who checked off which task when, how many points it earned, and an optional note.

Settings on this device: light/dark mode, color theme, notifications, who is currently signed in.

ID of your iCloud account: As soon as you create or join a household, the ID of your iCloud account is stored with your person. That’s how the app knows who you are – it’s the only way to make sure nobody checks things off in your name. Apple assigns this number; it only applies to this app and reveals neither your name nor your Apple Account.

Name of your iCloud account: In a household, the app also stores the name you’re signed in to iCloud with – the same name Apple shows your roommates anyway. That way everyone still knows who’s who, even after the household has been handed over.

The app does not ask for an email address, password or phone number. There is no user account. No location data, contacts or advertising identifiers are collected.

3. Where the data is stored

All data is stored in a protected area of your device that only this app can access. If you back up your device (iCloud Backup or a backup via your computer), this area is part of your backup – your device’s settings and Apple’s Privacy Policy apply to that.

4. Household sync via iCloud

Syncing is optional and off by default. It only starts when you create a household under “Settings” or accept an invitation to a household.

When it’s on, people (name, color, profile picture), rooms, tasks and the log are shared via Apple’s CloudKit service. The data is stored in the iCloud storage of the person who created the household and shared with the invited roommates via Apple’s sharing feature – just like a shared note.

Members see everything: All members of the household see and edit the same data. Apple also shows members the names the others are signed in to iCloud with.

Invite link: Every invitation is a separate link for exactly one person and works only once. Whoever taps it becomes part of the household. So only pass it on to the person it’s meant for. If a link ends up in the wrong hands and hasn’t been accepted yet, the person who created the household can withdraw it; anyone who has already joined can be removed at any time.

So please only enter what everyone in the household is happy to share: nicknames instead of real names are fine, profile pictures are optional, and nothing confidential belongs in the notes.

Before you enter someone else’s name or photo, quickly ask them for permission.

Management: The person who creates the household can remove members and dissolve the household. Every member can leave the household at any time. Anyone who is removed or leaves loses access – the household’s tasks, points and log are also deleted from their own device. For the remaining members, everything stays.

CloudKit is operated by Apple (Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Cork, Ireland; Apple Inc., One Apple Park Way, Cupertino, USA). Apple processes the data as a processor; this may involve a transfer to the USA, which Apple safeguards with standard contractual clauses.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the feature you requested) and your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you give by creating or joining a household and can withdraw at any time via “Leave household” or “Dissolve household”.

5. Camera and photos

You can choose a profile picture from your photo library or take one with the camera. Your device asks for your permission first; you can revoke it at any time in your device’s Settings. The picture is heavily downscaled (at most 384 pixels per side and 40 kilobytes) and stored in the app. If household sync is on, your roommates see it too.

6. No tracking, no ads

The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking components.

No usage statistics or crash reports are sent to the provider.

Your data is not sold, rented out or analyzed for advertising.

There is no user profiling and no automated decision-making.

If you have agreed to this in your device’s Settings, Apple may show the provider anonymous, aggregated crash and usage figures. These figures can’t be traced back to individual people.

7. Notifications, widgets and purchases

Notifications are scheduled by the app on your device itself (most are part of Chore Duel Pro; “Who’s in, who’s out” is free for everyone). Your device asks for permission first; you can revoke it at any time in your device’s Settings. Nothing is sent to the provider or to third parties for this.

Widgets show a small copy of your tasks and points that is stored only on your device. Anyone holding your device can see what a Lock Screen widget shows.

Purchases (Chore Duel Pro) are handled entirely by Apple. The provider receives no payment data. So that Pro applies to the whole household, the app stores in the household that Pro is unlocked, until when, and the name of the person who bought it.

8. How long the data is kept

Your data is stored for as long as you keep it. You can delete it yourself at any time:

Individual entries via the log, individual tasks, rooms and people via their editors.

“Settings → Delete everything” removes people, rooms, tasks and the entire log. If household sync is on, this also affects your roommates.

“Leave household” only disconnects this device from syncing. The household’s data stays with the others.

If you delete the app from your device, the data on it is gone.

A household package that nobody has opened for more than a year is no longer needed and may be deleted.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). You can withdraw any consent you have given at any time with effect for the future.

Because all data is stored on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app – view, change, delete. For anything else, just write to the contact address above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the authority in the place where you live.

10. Children and teenagers

The app contains no content that would be unsuitable for children and can be used by anyone as long as all data stays on the device.

Household sync is different: it is based on your consent, and in Germany only people aged 16 or older can give valid consent (Art. 8 GDPR in conjunction with Section 25 TDDDG). Younger people should therefore only create or join a household with the consent of their parents or guardians.

11. App Store

Downloading and updating the app happens through the App Store. In doing so, Apple processes its own data (for example your Apple Account and the purchase) under its own responsibility. Apple’s Privacy Policy applies to that.

12. Changes

As the app grows, this text may change. The version included in the installed app applies. The date is shown at the top. This English text is a translation; in case of doubt, the German version prevails.

13. This website

These pages are hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub Inc., 88 Colton Street, San Francisco, USA). When you visit them, GitHub processes technically necessary data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and protect them against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. GitHub is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; GitHub’s privacy statement also applies.

This site sets no cookies, loads no fonts, scripts or images from third-party servers and contains no analytics or advertising components.

This privacy policy covers the app and this website. For the app, the version inside the app is authoritative. This English text is a translation; in case of doubt, the German version prevails.
